My touchpad tap stops working at random.
I also tried installing driver from dell support site 15.0.18.0 but that also has same problem
I have enabled momentum in driver settings with synaptics 15.0.9.0 driver. For some time afer booting the laptop momentum works fine but at random momentum will stop working and with it the tap of touch pad also stops working.
Also, when i tap on touchpad the mouse pointer jumps away to some where else on the screen.
One strange thing is that dell's 15.0.18.0 driver does not have a momentum setting but still after rebooting the machine mouse pointer has momentum enabled.

i had a kind of similar problem where my touchpad was disabled when on battery power. the only functionality i had was controling the movement of the cursor: tapping functions and other enhancements were disabled. but when i plugged my notebook back into the AC adapter, the touchpad enhancements were immediately re-enabled.
to solve the issue, i took some (strange) steps. i don't know how or why it was fixed, but i'm not complaining
1) uninstalled and re-installed the same driver (Synaptics 14.0.3.0, directly from Synaptics.com)
2) installed newer Synaptics driver v15.0.24 from here
3) uninstalled v15 and re-installed v14.0.3.0
after that, my enhancements and touch-to-tap funcitonality works even on battery power now.
hope that helps!
