I had a XPS L501X which was replaced by another XPS L501X , I wanted to know the fastest way if there is any type of wire I can use without using a external harddrive.

    Thanks in advance!!

You could connect them directly using the gigabit network cards.

If they are the same spec hard drives why not just swap them?
It's more or less exactly the same hardware so there won't be any driver issues of old.
Would save ALOT of time if you have a very full hard disk.

The replacement has a 640gb hd compared to the 500gb in the old laptop

Just connect them with a RJ-45 wire or LAN cord and use IP messenger for data transfer

    Something like this?

A USB 3.0 enslosure is always a hand thing to have.
Great for things like this and perfect for when your friends laptop broken and they did to get everything off.
Assuming the drives are it will copy over 70megabytes a second and I guess if you didn't want it you could always return it afterwards'?
