I thought I saw something about having an HDMI + DP + internal LCD would work for a triple monitor setup. I tried a quick search but didnt come up with anything. If anyone could shine some light on this it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah I posted for when I had an m17x. I dont want a matrox until I have the money for better monitors. Im just going to accept that it isnt possible and decide if I want to use my 21in 1080p landscape or my 22in 1680x1050 portrait.

On the plus side - doing my research, I discovered software solutions to duel monitors, if that's any good? (at vastly lower prices, if not free ;) )

it doesn't need to be expensive:

eVGA US+ 16. runs off USB to a DVI adapter, up to 1600x1200.

the downside of Matrox (we use them at work) is that most of the older models require that all monitors be running the same resolution (though they don't need to have the same physical rez). USB adapters/emulators are great in that they can act as independent monitors - the obvious downside is a missing port. nothing a USB hub can't fix though.

or why not pick up some DisplayPort -> HDMI adapters and give Eyefinity a try? Isn't that what Eyefinity is for, to allow the user to have 3+ panels running at once? though i don't know if maximizing a program window will span across all 3 monitors...

I tried bypassing dell drivers with direct drivers and the mobile version still limits to 2 monitors. I might look into one of the USB to DVI for the portrait as its really only needs basic things running on it. Wish I had something other then bestbuy around here.
