Is it possible to turn off the monitor without turning my computer off or on standby? The reason for this is b/c I download items while I'm sleeping but if the screen remains on it's very bright. Any ideas?

go on the control panel, then the mobile pc page and then on the power options section click on the "change what closing the lid does" link

Is there any chance of damaging the hardware from overheating if I keep the computer on when the lid is closed? I know that the reason the MBP has no setting to leave the computer on when the computer is closed is for that exact reason. But that's probably because it is made of aluminum which actually helps dissipate the heat. Anyone know for sure with the SXPS 16?

It works fine with the lid closed, if anything it works better because the vents have more clearance. People say the screen "blocks" the vents, this is untrue but it's undeniable that it hinders them a little bit
