    Hey guys,

I have an m1530 with a 8600GT that is running very hot. I have actually seen it get up to 100C. Anywhere after 90C it slows down ALOT.

Anyways, I bought this laptop a little over 2 years ago. I know the 8600GTs were having problems and dell extended the warranty, so does that mean I would still be covered because of a gpu problem? I have checked Dells site and put in my service tag thing and it says my warranty is up, but does that include my bad gpu?

What would you guys do if you were me?

    Thanks

    LiTh07,

The extended warranty lasts for an additional year, but phoning Dell is probably your best bet.

When did you 1530s main warranty end? The date that your main warranty ended, is when the Nvidia 1 Year extended warranty picked up and extend out for one year. So, if my lappys warranty ended today, 6/9/10, the Nvidia GPU Extended Warranty would cover from 6/9/10 thru 6/9/11.

See this NVIDIA GPU Update: Limited Warranty Enhancement Details

What they will prolly want to do is start by replacing the Mobo, etc.

I actually got my mobo replaced a year after I bought the machine. It just straight up died. They sent a tech out and replaced it.

I haven't ever thought about this, but isn't the nvidia card saurderd onto the motherboard? if so, does that mean I get a new video card when i got my replacement mobo? Will this help my chances of getting a new laptop?

Thanks for the help people, im going to call Dell soon, and I'll let you know what happens!

Alright just got off the phone with India, oops, I mean Dell, and they say that my warranty is up, even with my 8600GT. However, they say that I can still send me m1530 back to them and they will take a look at it. They say this will take 2 weeks. Well I use my laptop ALOT, and I cannot be without it for two weeks, so I dont know what to do...

I was thinking maybe i should email michael_dell and complaining about this laptop, because honestly, I am NOT happy I bought it.. heres a recap of the problems I've had...

    1) received an m1530 with a grainy screen, and returned it after much hassle
    2) mobo dies after a year, takes them forever to send someone out to replace
    3) cd drive stops working after 14 months (called about this, but they just wanted me to send it in for 2 weeks which I cant afford to do)
    4) I've been getting rising temps for the past year, and now my 8600GT gets up to 100C after very light gaming for 20 mins.
    5) my battery dies after 6 mins, on power saver mode.

What do you guys think are my odds of getting a replacement? Is it worth it to send it to them for two weeks? Will emailing the boss man get me any better results? I would really like a replacement laptop because I intended this one to last me 3 years, at least!

EDIT- Just sent [email protected] an email outlining all of my problems and how I would like a replacement. I'll see if i get anything back =\

You probably need new thermal paste for the GPU. If you've been using the laptop a lot then you probably need a new battery also. My extended battery went from 3-4 hours when new to 1.5 hours after a year of lite use. GPU problems usually involves poor screen output such as weird colors or a blank screen. I believe nVidia is the one that warranted it for an additional year instead of the manufacturers. nVidia is suppose to reimburse the manufacturer when it's replaced.

Alright, the response I got from the corporate office just refered me to another guy in India who just gave me the same offer, send it to them for two weeks. This doesnt really work for me because I need my laptop everyday, so its out of the question.

I'm gonna send some more emails, and see if I can get to someone higher up on the chain.
