I just installed the new Synaptics touchpad driver for my S-XPS 1645, but as a result, the two-finger scrolling feature was removed . I reverted to the older drivers, but it didn't help. I'm not sure if I installed it incorrectly, or if Synaptics just decided to get rid of the feature. Has anyone else experienced (and hopefully resolved) this issue?

I appreciate the post, but it didn't work for me. It actually removed the middle mouse-button simulation that I previously had when I clicked both buttons simultaneously. It seems as if the touchpad downgrades each time I update the driver.

Try the latest SXPS1647 drivers as linked to on this page. It will re-enable the centre button options. Other functions can then be accessed from the registry.

The useful functions I use all the time is centre button click (press both buttons together), spiral scroll and momentum.

All these functions are delivered as part of the driver package but manufacturers customise the basic driver package to permit / prevent the various functions. Dell have enabled spiral scroll and momentum on most of their laptops. Centre button on some but I don't think they have enabled 2 or 3 finger gestures on any of their own drivers.

I am surprised that no one has developed a piece of software that can amend these settings separately as they are controlled by registry values, even if the controls are hidden by the manufacturer supplied driver.

Thanks for the suggestions (I tried them all!), but I didn't have any luck getting the two-finger scrolling back. I didn't find any success from rolling back drivers, either. As much as I dislike the process of reinstalling the OS, I finally had time today to backup all of my files and do a Dell Factory Image Restore..and I'm happy to say that the two-finger scrolling is back!! In case anyone is wondering the Synaptics driver version (the one that works), it's 13.2.2.2.
