My post was a general post about the differences between both of these models. To some people some of these differences will be a weakness or a strength.
To address your point 3 according to people on this forum who have used both systems the SZ and the M1330 the M1330 video card does feel faster.

why did you quote me saying "snip" when I never said that?

And im not denying that there will be a difference between the 2, but I cant see an extra 64MB of VRAM being a major difference! Esp seeing as they can use the system RAM too...

Esp when I'm using an Intel GMX950 (I think) right now...I only want the NVIDIA card to play the odd game here and there.

If I wanted a proper gaming system I'd just build myself a desktop.

And I have a 360, Wii, PSP, DS Lite, PS3, PS2, etc. So I have plenty of games to choose from, esp seeing as all of them (bar the PS3...for now) are chipped or hacked to play my "backups". ;)

    Just an update from me.

I've been using my second replacement for a day or so, other than the CPU whine, its' perfect cosmetically, 'refurbished or not', god knows as most new laptops are being shipped with a01 motherboard now.

I should have just kept my first replacement as it had the a04 motherboard, but still had the cpu whine and wobble. The wobble i fixed by bending the base and would be left with only the whine which my second replacement has anyway :-S

My original has the a01 motherboard and no whine, it's just comsmetically bad and a dead pixel, so this is definetely going back.

I'm going to wait for my 3rd replacement now and see whats thats like.

    Right, i'm back.

i now have 4th replacement, with both and Good and Bad points again. Why can't i just get a perfect laptop!

Good - No CPU Whine :), A04 Motherboard, No UnEven Base\Wobble, Excellent Keyboard, No Dents, Dead Pixels

Bad - AC Adapter port sort of lose (not tight like my others) and left hinge cover lose. :-(

Current one has cpu whine and the keyboard now doesn't feel as good as the new one i have and the harddrive also seem noiser than the new one i have.

Now what would you do, i don't want to call Dell up for another replacement as i know that will have one or two issues too.

Could i call Dell and tell them to send me a new hinge cover so that i can replace the lose one or how easy is it to do yourself. i could just swap it with my other one and then i could live with the lose charger port.

Would love to know how you get Dell to replace them so quickly, 4 working days now and they still haven't managed to change my replacement order from 'currently on the support system' to 'ordered with the factory'. I told them to refund in full, they said it would take up to 3 weeks!!!

I've ordered one of an authorised reseller on eBay, which hopefully isn't a bad idea... But the reseller offers 7 day return so any problems it will be going straight back!

Also 2 brand new M1330's which were delivered on the 7th Dec (from Ireland) both had A01 mobo's what's that about?!

i was also shocked how i got it so quick! I was expecting it around next year in Jan. Even my 2nd replacement came so quick and that also had the A01 Motherboard hence we thought it was a refurb but i don't think it was now.

I've managed to fix the Lose Hinge now by swapping it and with my other one :)

i also just swapped the harddisk around saving me rebuilding the system.

The issue i have now with the new:

    1. The Lose AC Adapter Port is lose
    2. New issue that i never had with my previous laptops, the sensor bar is doing it's own thing. it's pressing it own buttons

This is a joke now! I think i will just keep my old system with the cpu whine and just change the harddisk back and the keyboard and live with the whine.

It's easy to switch the CPU, too...Remove the heatsink and you can take the CPU out immediately...

I'll love to but i wont get a sony for the same spec and price as my xps. :-( I'm going to give it one more try with another replacement. If they won't do that, i'll just have to get a refund and reorder it when "the next revisions on the 1330 which should be end of january" which someone mentioned earlier.

i guess i'll wait for the next revisions. For the price i paid, i can now get one with 4 year H/w support and 4gb RAM. Sony is a good alternative however, just upto the spec as thre XPs can be.

I'm also tempted with the 15" XPS... i'll just wait and see. At least i got my work laptop i could use.

I got my Sony for £1550 delivered (rrp is £1699 excluding delivery), only real difference between the Sony and the Dell is that the Sony only has 64MB of dedicated video RAM opposed to the Dells 128MB, but its not a big deal, cos it also shares the system RAM as needed, up to a max of 831MB.

However the Dell cost me £934, so I had to fork out an extra £600, but for the sake of having no hassle, it was 100% worth it!! I would have paid more than £600 just for the piece of mind that it will last more than a week, and wont arrive with any faults!

It even uses the same CPU and southbridge as the Dell, but guess what...no whine!!! And it also fits together properly!! No huge gaps, or bulging keyboards!

As iv said before, that M1330 was my first and LAST Dell purchase EVER!

From now on I'm just sticking with the likes of ASUS, Sony, Toshiba, IBM and HP!

All companies that I have used many times over, and all companies that I have never had a problem with!

The only problem with the Sony is the amount of bloatware it's filled with! But thats all.
