Hey everyone,
I made this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...nt-xps-m1530-l502x-replacement-questions.html
when I was thinking I would be getting a xps 15 as a replacement but I've just been told that it would be a 15z (thin newer model).
I'm on the phone with a rep right now and I'll be posting the specs once he has finally emailed me the list.
I really need help with this one as to what y'all think. I had never even heard of this 15z before.
I had a m1530 with T9300, 4gb ram, m8600 GT, LED 1440 LCD and 320gb HDD.
What do y'all think?
Thanks a ton!

The 15z has received a lot of flak for trim that is merely glued on and tends to fall off. That said, the hardware itself is basically the same as the 15. Sounds to me like they are still trying to give you a refurbished unit however. Probably ran out of straight XPS 15s.
Check out the Owner's thread on the 15z for more reactions. -
I am gonna make sure about whether the 15z is new or a refurb (no info on that yet, i'm still trying to get specs).
He did mention an i5 2410 and i laughed and said no way i'd settle for under an i7 (for my t9300) -
Ok so it looks I've been a bit misguided by the gentleman on the phone.
He wanted to basically ship me a 15z that was ready to go (with a i5 2410m), but when I gave him specs that I felt were acceptable for the new 15z he told me they'd most end up sending me the XPS 15 (l502x), as previously offered to me... -
The XPS 15 would be the closest to your m1530 in terms of model replacement. The 15z is a thinner and lighter version in the XPS 15 family, you may or may not like it depending on specifications/hardware. they are very similar in those regards though.
Just be polite, don't demand anything and you should be able to get what you want. Sometimes the reps can't do anything if the particular specifications you want is not available or will take a while to build and ship.
Just remember the XPS 15 is a generation or two ahead of the m1530, so pretty much almost anything you receive from Dell will be miles ahead of the m1530 in terms of power. So if an i5 is the only one available, don't argue for an i7 if that will delay shipping, unless you have time to wait until October. -

No way would I swap my m1530 for a 15z (and it just sits on the shelf unused). Hold out for an XPS 15.

DO NOT DO IT lol! try to push for XPS 15.. here is my story.. I bought the 15z and oh man.. that was the biggest mistake
The build quality is really bad.. the rim on the side of the laptop came out , the screen got unglued! , the wireless connection keeps dropping if u move more than 30 ft from the router and even when u r close it keeps dropping.. Dell cannot figure out what is the issue but some people said it is the antena and the wireless card on the device..since they have changed the wireless and a guy made some changes on the antena..its not worth it..
Google : New Dell XPS 15z (L511z) Wireless Card Issues
I returned 2 of them so do not do the same mistake as I did.. trust me on that -
don't do It.
I has exp. even "make new order", i receive replacement xps15z, also is 'old', has a deadpixel, dark screen, esc key sometime not working.
don't believe again replacement, better refund with full ! all replacement just a user got a problems and return , then give to other replacement user. just hope user *not found the problems*! -
He is offering me everything right except:
I'm still refusing anytihng under 1080p! (m1530 was 1440, i'm using that against the 1366 resolution one as not "Equivalent or better")
He is offering me a refurb (which I guess i might have to settle for).
So if he gives me that i7 + 1080p even though it's a refurb it looks like I'm gonna take the XPS 15 L502x.
What do y'all think?
(Should we go back to the previous thread?

your M1530 buy how much ? Can you try full refund (with money), then order new or choice other brand?

...and don't worry about pinheads who say not to accept Certified Refurbished or Outlet New. You run just as much of a risk, if not more, of getting a system with a problem when you buy new from any manufacturer. 4 of my last 6 computers have been from the Outlet and all of them were top notch with full warranties (I do steer clear of their "scratch and dents" though... just "because"). Keep pushing because the 1080p XPS 15 is a great computer and you're going to love it compared to the m1530.
URGENT (Update!) Dell offering XPS 15z (L511z) as replacement for m1530!
