I've searched but not much help....
Has anyone ever encountered problems with the two rear USB 3.0 ports? Mine doesn't seem to work at all. The only time it detects any activity is when I reboot the unit and it'll recognize something but immediately freezes shortly afterward. I've tried new and old drivers, deleted the ports and restarted Windows for automatic detection/installation, and pretty much tried everything to no avail. Also, it doesn't seem to charge my ipod when the system is off. The two 2.0 ports on the sides are working fine and seems to be drawing power for charging even though the unit is off. Dell is sending a replacement MB, but before that I'd like to know if there's an alternative.
This was a (new) replacement unit, the last one had screen-flickering problems. This new unit seemed to have pretty much addressed all the issues until I tried the rear USB 3.0 ports.

it sounds like new Mobo time to me

Sucks man, I just hope with the new MB, there won't be any more new surprises. Never ends with Dell does it?

Same thing happened to my L502 last time, but a driver reinstallation fixed it.

^^
I've tried ALL the drivers, nothing worked. It only recognizes once every reboot and that's it but then it'll freeze. The drive takes a very long time to show up, and if does the contents showed empty. -
spoil MB. dell made in china. new also has many problems now.

After getting off the phone with Dell support over the weekend, they'd concluded that I might need to replace the motherboard. I told them that it might only needed just the USB 3.0 board, but to be safe they sent out the whole kit.
I received the parts from Dell today (yes, I am my own tech); got a refurbished MB, Foxconn USB 3.0 daughterboard (rear), and Foxconn USB 2.0/eSATA/Audio Headphone jack board (right). Before I go ahead and change the whole thing I decided just to replaced the USB 3.0 board, tested it out and everything worked perfect! So the problem was the USB 3.0 daughterboard, and it was some unknown brand. I now have all Foxconn boards, including the original 2.0/eSATA on the right side...even though they sent me another new one but why mess with it when it ain't broke? I didn't want to replace the MB due to the fact that I spent a good deal amount of time and applied Arctic Silver 5 to both the cpu and gpu (what a waste that would've been), and who knows what else lies ahead from that refurb'ed board. -
Glad it fixed, and nice to see they put those ports on a daughter board.
USB 3.0 ports 'DEAD' on new L702X.
