    I use various external HDD's (USB powered/AC powered, 2.0/3.0) on the left side USB 3.0 port constantly. I haven't really used the rear 3.0 port much except to plug in a mouse receiver for games every so often and the 2.0/eSATA on the right is for the cool pad. Zero problems... so far.

    My only USB gripe as of yet is how the ports seem scattered all over the place (really it's just the rear port that makes it seem that way to me). Dell should've stacked or side/side the two USB 3.0 ports on the left side IMO.

    From reading the Dell community forums, it seems like the XPS 15 can resolve the problem with software/driver updates whereas the XPS 17 can only be resolved with Motherboard replacement.
    I recieved my laptop May 25 and had the motherboard replaced last week, my USB 3.0 problems are gone- of course Im talking about the XPS 17 so if you are getting the XPS 15 you shouldnt have to worry.

    Is this the same problem as the Intel chipset issue or is this a different one?

    I just received my 702x. What should I look for to affirm if it's all good or not?

    WOW....Can you share you starting link? I had the coupons and everything but no matter which ever way I tried I could not get that spec for that price.

    If you could please share the link to configuration customization start page (and the coupon if it is a publicly posted coupon) I would really appreciate it!

    Thanks.

    I just tried it again and the coupons still work... ;)
    Just remember to configure at least $1600 to get the $350 off ( 8GHR80Q1PLLCF7 ) and the $150 off (7WR1C2?HTTQQ11).

    If you can transfer and use the rear ports on the back of your XPS fine then you dont have the problem. Just leave a harddrive connected back there all day and do various transfers thouoghout the day. I didnt have the problem with my second XPS (see sig) but my latest XPS had the problem so you may not have a problem.

    I had tried that exact same landing page before and I could not take the lowest $899 config and spec it out as I wanted (many options did not show up).

    The next best at the time was the second one in the line up which is what I had ordered (and has been delivered).

    Anyway, I tried configuring the lowest $899 version as I wanted and it worked out today. Already placed an order (through shopdiscover which should get another 5% off). But I could not get the $1114 although I did add the X-fi. The lowest I got was $1178 and X-Fi is just $20 more.

    I will try again...maybe I am missing something...

    @Beertha - Tried it again....nope, still can't get $1114. Lowest is $1178.99 ($1678.99 minus $500 coupon) before taxes.

    What is it that I picked below and you didn't?

    OK thx. Order accepted by dell and is in prod now. Thanks again for your post which prompted me to research this further and get a better config that I wanted.

    I will be returning the other system soon. Anyone want it (in case dell extends additional discounts to keep it) let me know. Will sell at cost and feedback/references for me will be provided. :)
