I thought I read in one of the threads that there was a way to power the USP port on a 1640 even when the lappy is turned off which would be great. Can someone confirm this one way or the other and if its true explain how to do it!
Thanks...........

I'v got the M1340 i think its should be the same for the 1640. Its turned on/off via the bios Advanced>USB PowerShare
-
You have to boot into the BIOS, go to the Advanced section, and it'll be called USB Powershare. There, you can select to turn it on/off, and also you can select to turn it off if the battery reaches a certain level (e.g. if the battery has greater than 10% charge, powershare will be active, if it has less, it will be disabled).

The eSata port runs constant power.

So then you have two: the USB powershare port, and the Esata combo does too. I didn't know about the 2nd one. Cool.
-
The esata port is NOT always on, and am understanding that by going into the bios that it can be enabled as well as one of the other USB or just the esata?
-
*note* i havent changed any settings in the bios. -
I know nothing about computers can someone tell me how to boot into the bios?
-
Ok figured out how to get into BIOS and the advanced setting shows that USB Powershare is enabled but it still does not power the port after the computer is turned off...... HELP, Please!

When you turn off your computer, you need to unplug and then replug again the USB device on your e-SATA port for it to provide power to the device.
