I use this feature now and again to charge my HD2 while I have my laptop turned off.

Now it has all of a sudden stopped working...I checked the BIOS and it's enabled. I tried disabling then re-enabling, but still nothing.

Anyone else seen this? I can't understand what would cause it to stop working.

Have you tried unplugging the cable and replugging it in after you turn it off? It mentions it somewhere in the manual. Oh and it only works from the USB port to the right of the machine.

Have you tried going to your device manager and delete all the USB roots and USB hubs (Generic too as well as the Intel ones) and then search for new hardware (AKA scan for hardware changes) and let Windows re-install them. The drivers likely got corrupted. Do this without anything pugged into the USB ports and try again.

This shouldn't do anything because this is all hardware and BIOS controlled function. The Powershare feature only kicks in when the computer is completely turned off and he didn't say anything about having problems with USB devices inside Windows.

My recommendation is to ignore this recommendation because it will only have the potential to cause problems if devices are working fine in Windows.

Yea, tried unplugging and replugging it. Yep, only using the one on the right near the power cable.

Don't think it would be a driver issue as the laptop is turned off.

It's got me...it just stopped working a few days ago for no particular reason.

I got the same problem on mine, although mine is a 1640. Did you do any bios updates before it stopped working?
Have you found a solution for it?

I read on another post that with the computer in the off, standy or hibernate stage, the user slowly inserted the usb plug into the powershare port until the charge light came on their cell phone. Once it is lit, you can either leave it where it is or plug it in the rest of the way. I own a HTC touch pro 2 and I was able to charge my phone with this method but I leave it at the point where the light turns on. Sometimes when I plug it all the way in, the charger turns off. I don't know why the poweshare port behaves like this but the partial plug in method works. Remember that whenever you power the laptop back on, you will have to remove the usb cable and reset it if you want the phone to charge. Good luck and I hope this helps others.

I've just had the Dell technician come around to replace the motherboard. Dell sent him the motherboard and all the ports (USB etc) to replace.

I got a little nervous when he mentioned that this was his first XPS 16... And I noticed he had two screws left over...

On the first time that I tested Powershare it didn't work. In the mean time the Dell tech did a scrumage through the box and found one cable he didn't replace. This just happened to be the eSATA port.

After replacing this cable. Powershare worked again. So if your Powershare doesn't work you might need to replace this cable or get Dell to replace it as it seems to be a common failure.

The component to replace is the eSATA port and the cable to the motherboard (this is one component).
