I just got this Dell laptop yesterday and wanted to connect my USB Enclosure with a 500GB SSD in it. It's working fine on my desktop but when I connect it to the Dell XPS 15, it would disconnect. I have the latest bios and drivers. Disable USB power saving. Anyone have any other problem connect USB 3 external hard drive?

Sorry that you are having issues, there is a dedicated thread for Dell XPA 9550, try asking your question there. I haven't tested my USB ports , but I suggest you try a UsB stick or another drive and see if the problem is still there.

    Cheers.
