    G'day all,

    This is my first post on these forums and I'm hoping that with the wealth of knowledge around these parts that I can have my problem solved.

    I own an M1330 running Vista SP1. I have followed the Dell laptop reformat/Vista reinstall guide and my M1330 runs almost perfectly. However, I recently bought a portable USB digital-to-analogue converter and headphone amplifier to use for playing back music and DVDs and am having problems with audio randomly pausing during playback.

    My pausing is not the constant popping and crackling that sometimes happens with misbehaving sound devices. It occurs about every 20 minutes and involves a complete drop-out of sound from the device. The only way to restore sound is to stop and restart playback. This is really starting to annoy me, especially when watching DVDs.

    I know the problem is related to my XPS because the device works without any problem on other computers in my household. I have tried the following with no success:

    * Updating my computer's drivers/BIOS/etc. to the best of my knowledge
    * Running ASIO4All as my sound driver to bypass Window's audio processes
    * Disabling other sound devices
    * Selectively disabling devices such as network adaptors/USB hosts/etc. using device manager
    * Cleaning my USB ports with contact cleaner and running the device through a USB hub

    I am really stumped by this problem and am still not sure whether it is caused by software or is a hardware problem with my XPS. I am confident my computer is clean from viruses and other malware. Can anyone offer any help?
