    Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum so firstly I'd like to say Hi to all on here. I've had Dell laptops for the last 9 years but only found this forum yesterday.
I currently have a Studio XPS 16, which I've had for 3 months. I'm very happy with how it performs but I've recently had a problem and am wondering if it's a problem with the USB ports or the USB stick. I bought a Pretec 16GB bullet rugged USB stick. The laptop had difficulty recognising it and it would suddenly not see it after eventually recognising it. I returned it and it was replaced. The system wouldn't see this one at all. I can plug the stick into other desktop PC's OK so I reformatted the USB stick but the Laptop still doesn't recognise it. Since I've tried 2 USB sticks with the same result and other systems recognise the stick I'm wondering if it's a driver problem. I can plug in other USB devices (usb sticks/portable drives/cameras) with no problems. Has anybody heard anything similar or are aware of problems with the USB device driver?

I currently have the Dell XPS M1330 and I had the same problem ago 2 weeks ago. I finally just ended up doing a system restore due to the lack of information online on how to fix it.

This happens more often than you think. Just go to your device manager and delete all the USB roots and USB hubs (Generic too as well as the Intel ones) and then search for new hardware (AKA scan for hardware changes) and let Windows re-install them. The drivers likely got corrupted. Do this without anything pugged into the USB ports

Thanks for that flyswatter. I deleted and re-installed the drivers and the USB stick is now recognised.

    Thanks for your help.
