Well my S-XPS 1645 seems to be acting up when i connect devices to it via the USB ports when its on battery. My Hard drive doesnt detect nor does my mp3 player through any of the USB ports. My hard drive's light actually stops blinking after like 10 seconds. If i connect the adapter it still doesnt get detected.Only if i restart the laptop with the Adapter connected,do the USB devices start functioning properly.
    Anyone else faced this issue?

I don't think this problem is due to being on battery or not but is more related to the machine being put into standby and then re-awoken.

I do this frequently with devices attached and even the external mouse stops responding. Sometimes unplugging and plugging back in works but often it doesn't and only a restart does it.

I imagine there will be a way to reset the ports without rebooting but I don't know what it is.

There should be a setting in Device Manager for the USB ports. On the last tab, I think, you can tell the computer to NOT turn the ports off to save power.

Thanks for that, I've given it a try and I'll post back if the problem still occurs over the next few days.
