    Hi,

I'm thinking of making my 1330 a dual-boot with VistaHomeP and Ubuntu 7.1.

The problem is the partitions. Dell have 3 Primary Partitions (Utilities+RECOVERY+OS) and my custom-created extended one for data. So, it's kinda run out of partitions. I'm thinkin of gettin rid of Utilities and Recovery partitions, and getting the ubuntu installed.

    Any suggestions are welcomed! :D

    Thx so much.

PS. Followin is my current partition layout. :)

hmm if i were you i would just backup everything on recovery and get rid of the partition. There is a limited number of primary partitions you can have right? So then you can split off 10GB's or so from c: for Ubuntu.

Ditch the recovery partition......it's for people who couldn't be bothered with doing an clean install of Vista, and want an easy 1-click solution.

Hi ya, thx for ur replies. :)

Ok...then RECOVERY's on the list. Can I also get rid of that small Utilities so that I can have 2 new primary partition? I think I have all those stuff from Utilities on the DVD Dell gave me, rite?

Another thing is the current location of the C: Drive. Let's say I delete both partitions in front of C:, and move the C: ahead. if i'm not wrong, the starting sector of the C: will change. is it ok to do that? I'm afraid that vista won't boot up.

    again, many thx :D

The recovery is now useless since you can't use it once you've changed the partitions so you may as well reclaim that space.

I would leave the partitions as is, and put Ubuntu on the recovery partition. This way, you have the utilities built-in and you can put your data on the extended partition as you have it set up.

    Thx. :)

Then, it seems that I'd have to keep Utilities.

Btw, I think I need a swap partition for Ubuntu. Can that be a logical partition?

Yes it can. My swap files have always been on logical partitions.
