Hi
I have owned m1730 for about 4 weeks already and I'm loving it.
However, I heard from some people that Dell set the voltage too high for this system, which results in high CPU temp and even higher when overclocking to 3.4 ghz.
My m1730 crashed once when I played Mass Effect at the highest settings while overclocking it via Bios. The temp for each core went above 100 celsius if i'm not mistaken!
So... I wanted to ask if anyone could give me a quick, simple guide (as I'm a newbie) for undervolting and overclocking this system properly so that the overall performance and temperature can become better? I know there should be a guide somewhere but I couldn't find any.
My m1730 specs are as follow:
core 2 extreme x9000 at 2.8 ghz
dual Nvidia Geforce 8800m GTX (1 gb memory)
4 gb ram
640 gb hard disk (320 x 2 and RAID0)
Thank you for any help in advance!![]()

Take a look at Flipfire's guide on undervolting... He's the one to hit up on this subject...

Undervolting and OC the same time is a bad idea.
Oc'ing requires a right amount of voltage to run the increased clockspeeds. UV'ing does the opposite by lowering the voltage, causing instability. You can still try though, its possible to find the optimal voltages while OC'd
Id still suggest you stick to 2.8ghz. -
Thanks a lot! I'm following his guide now - it's great! -
By what you said, I will try undervolting the stocked 2.8 ghz and find its optimal temp as well.
Most of the time I think I will stick to the 2.8 ghz unless I really want to play a CPU-consuming game (coz the fans are so noisy when overclocking this system to 3.4 ghz lol)...
Thanks again for your great undervolting guide!!! -
It is possible, somebody with a 1730 OCed and UVed his X9000 and his CPU temps are below 75C. Which is good.
First off , OC to 3.2 or 3.4 , whichever.
Then start UVing SLOWLY, step by step as sugested in FF`s guide.
