Anyone know how to do this? In the Nvidia System Tools, the voltage section is greyed out.
-
why would you need to do this? The intel gpu should be used instead of the nvidia card.
-
The only way AFAIK is to flash the BIOS of your GPU.
-
It seems that these nvidia can clock high quite easily but they get hot.
A little undervolting may ease the heat -
I am playing with Nvidia Inspector and it allows me to undervolt every state except the highest power state.
GPU at 42 celsius and all the cores at 46....amazing. before the underclock/undervolt of the 525M everything was in the 50s.
I think Dell should consider setting the minimum state at the lowest. 135Mhz Mem and 50Mhz Core. -
Whats the sense of undervolting the nvidia gpu if when your browsing the web or not playing games, you would be using the intel gpu?
Please explain,
maybe if you undervolt the intel gpu ? -
I think even though the intel gpu becomes primary, the Nvidia cpu is still active. I still that's what my Nvidia System Monitor says. The 525M doesn't downclock to a low enough power state. On my 1645, the ATI 5730 downclocks to 150Mhz when completely idle. On the l502x the system monitor says the nvidia gpu is still running at 600/900 even when idle. It's not performing any work ( i can tell, since the heat stays in the 50s). When downclocked to 50Mhz its temps fall to < 50. So, with the Nvidia Inspector I can downclock it more and undervolt it from 0.95 to 0.85. The undervolting does not work at the higher power setting.

Often Nvidia card not downclocking itself automatically, when are used drivers not from Dell website or there is some overclocking.
-
I don't have optimus, but my 525m goes to 50 MHz whenever it is not in use. I use MSI Afterburner for checking the clocks and setting my OCs, so maybe whatever you use to overclock (if you are) is screwing it up.

I am not using the Dell drivers. They were horribly complicated to use with respect to getting games to use the Nvidia card instead of the Intel. I got the driver that someone posted here. Immediately, all games automatically use the Nvidia card.
-
A bit of both. Dell drivers were not allowing my games to use the Nvidia card no matter what I tried.
Undervolting the 525m/540m
