Hi,
I am planning to buy the DELL XPS M1530. However I found on internet that the default OS shipped with the notebook is Vista.
Can they provide me with a dual boot of Ubuntu and XP?
Or do I have to purchase XP? That sounds really foolish to buy an old OS, but I really like that OS..
Also if I format and install another OS like any version of linux, would that be a case of void warranty?
Kindly reply.
Thanx!

The XPS line doesn't get anything other than Vista. Some other Dell lines do get Ubuntu or XP, not both.
I would call and ask Dell about the warranty. I've read that it can void it from some people, and from others it's just a change of software and not hardware. -
The software that you load typically won't affect the hardware-based warranty.
Are there any particular reasons that you can't be running Vista? I'd say give it a week or two after doing a clean installation, and see what you may benefit from. Personally, the instant searching feature has really changed the way I use the Start Menu. -
You can buy a M1530N and it comes with Ubuntu.
Unix/XP on XPS M1530?
