I'm having some trouble with Photoshop CS5 crashing on exit, which according to a few message boards, is due to outdated ATI drivers. Can I safely use the ATI updater to update my drivers instead of relying on Dell's ATI drivers?

yes, just download the latest drivers here 10.11

I find downloading the larger "individual package" works best. You should be able to just install over the drivers already in place. You can look here if you have any issues during the install.

And for future questions you can refer to this thread here.
