Is it possible to drop a quad core CPU into my Dell Studio XPS 13? Am doing a lot of VM work and having only a Dual core CPU is becoming a limiting factor?

    Has anyone done this before?

In VM work, I think RAM would be a bigger constraint than CPU, unless you have, say, a P8400. I don't think the quad core will work - although I don't know of anyone that has tried something like that yet. The issue would not be physical compatibility, but rather BIOS support and heat issues. From what I hear, the SXPS13 runs hot as it is. A 45W CPU will melt it.

Go buy a T9900 on Ebay and put that in. That's the fastest your system can probably handle.

The SXPS13 don't run that hot, my colleague has a SXPS16 and that runs super hot.

The VM's l need to use are quite CPU intensive.

Doubt it's supported. On the other hand, you never know with these things; your best way through which to discover the truth is to try it yourself :) I'd second a fast dual-core, though; I don't think it's a terribly good idea to put a quad in a 13-inch machine.
