I like repairing laptops as a hobby. I recently bought a M1330 laptop without a screen and with a small video card problem. The laptop still worked on external screen, but showed some lines. This was due to the NVidia gpu problem. I managed to fix it by using a hot air soldering station( Youtube video). To decrease the chance that it arrises again, I also did the copper mod( description). This meant that I could finally use the laptop for my work if I could just install a LCD screen.
Since I have spend quite some time on repairing the laptop already, I decided to invest some additional money to upgrade from a CCFL to a LED backlit LCD. I ordered a new cover, screen and LED LCD cable. When I assembled all the parts, everything fits perfectly. The computer, however, doesn't recognise the LED screen and the screen stays black(no backlight either). I've been using my laptop connected to an external screen so far and it looks like it is acting as it should. The key combination 'Fn+F8' that should change between the external and internal screen doesn't do anything either. I feel like I tried everything and I don't know what is wrong. Have I ordered the wrong screen model or do I need additional components to upgrade(Do I also need an inverter or something?)? might it be that the motherboard is still broken? Is there a way to test whether the screen or the LCD cable is broken? I hope there is someone there who can help. Thanks

I did this same project with one of my M1330's. At first I had a Chi Mei which was too bright and hurt my eyes. I then got a Toshiba but the backlight didn't work, turned out a cable inside the LED came loose and now it works fine. You said your backlight doesn't even come on so you may have a bad screen. I didn't even know AU made a LED, I have a AU LCD in my other M1330. At $97 I would be cautious and get them to send you another one. M1330 LED's have integrated inverters.
Also nVidia could of already done it's damage..... -
thanks for your quick reply! I will try to get a new screen. Hope it will fix it.

Today I finally received the new screen. When i connected it to the laptop, it still did not work. I thought I smelled something so I turned it off as soon as possible. When I inspected the led LCD screen, I noticed that there was a small burnhole in one of the chips below the LCD screen(where the cable connects to the screen). I tried another cable than last time, so it can not be that. Do you think that it is the cheap led LCD screen or do you think my mainboard is broken, since this is the second screen that doesn't work? It works perfectly on an external monitor. I've used it for over month and don't have any problems with it. I hope you guys can help!
