    Upgraded Memory - Performance Question

I just upgraded my memory from 2GB to 4GB – the computer recognized the memory fine but according to the ‘windows experience index’ the performance drop from 4.9 to 4.8 (ram score).

    Anyone else experience this?

Here’s a link of the memory I purchased from Newegg (2g stick for $16.99 – cheap!!)

Erm yes, that happens all the time. Mainly because WEI is crap. :)

meh, even if the WEI was the best benchmark in the world, going from 4.9 to 4.8 isn't a huge difference. Besides that though you should remember that the WEI memory score is only measuring read/write speed... and in no way reflects the performance increase that you will see by doubling your RAM.

Well, if you want an explanation of *why* this happened rather than "WEI is crap", your score dropped because the index doesn't care about quantity of RAM so much as its speed.

I know the difference is minimal (believe me I’m not losing sleep over this) -just curious… The memory was pretty cheap - maybe that had something to do with it.

Funny - but someone at work was also skeptical about the WEI index – he said it was more of a marketing tool to sell software.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one….
