The best CPU for the M1530 would be a T9600 I think. Not really worth upgrading to from your current CPU. The M1530 is Santa Rosa platform so no chance of using any quad core CPUs.

T9500 would be the highest processor you could go for

Yeah, T9500 is the best thing you can use. Or any other 800MHz FSB of less Socket P processor. T9600 is 1066MHz FSB. No i7 or anything along those lines either.

That being said, T9300 or T8300 are probably better values for your money.

His sig line says he already has the T9300, so there is little value to getting a T9500.

I suppose he could buy the T9500 on eBay for $230 then sell the T9300 for $150 or $175 ...

IMO, keep your CPU. It's not worth any other CPU with a $100 extra regardless a T9500 or an X9000 which you can also fit into. Ask yourself whether that extra 100-300MHz gain is worth the cost even if you sell your T9300, and what applications that you use benefits that extra 100MHz and that you are able to see that boost. Just a thought.

Just get a new notebook with an i7 inside.

If you need to open it, you can find the disassembly instructions at Dell's website. They're not difficult, just follow the instructions and you should be fine. Hope it helps.

is it something to do with the mobo or somthing?
that mine can only fit upto T7500?

You can have the T8300, t9300, t9500, X9000 no problem. In fact those CPUs run cooler since they are 45nm tech and your T7500 is 65nm.

    Dell is stupid.

Given the options of what fits, what they do and what they cost, the T9300 he already has is the best choice for a few reasons.

First, you can get a T9500 for under $250 and the X9000 is still over $550, and his T9300 is free (as he already has one).

Second, and perhaps more important on the M1530, the T9500 is a 35 watt TDP processor vs. the X9000's 44 watt TDP. His T9300 is also a 35 watt unit.

Third, there is very little performance difference between the three ... he will probably not even be able to notice the change in speed.
