Hi,
So I was just wondering....if I have a Dell XPS m1530 with t5550 (1.83GHZ), and I want to upgrade it to like the t8300, would I be able to?
Now I've heard that all m1530s use the same motherboard/socket so I will be able to upgrade.
However, Dell tech chat ppl told me that my motherboard does not support the penry processors, and the best I can go is t5850.
I'm more inclined to listen to Dell ppl...but they don't know everything either..
So...any input will be nice and kindly appreciated!
Thanks, and happy thanksgiving!

Hmm I have an T8300 in mine and it works fine.
Just wondering how old your M1530 is because when I bought mine 6 month ago the T8300 version was pretty much the basic version (or number 2...cant remember) with 2.44 Ghz. Thats bloody 600MHz more than your CPU. But I can remember that there never was a 600 MHz upgrade option in May this year when I bought mine...or does other countrys have different models ? -
Dell tech is wrong. They just dont want you to open up the notebook.
You currently have a Socket P CPU. I suggest you download CPU-z and match the chipset, if it says PM/GM965 then you are good to go.
Make sure you update your BIOS to support newer processors.

I upgraded from a T7250 to a T9300 without any problems

I upgraded from a T5450 to a T8300 without issue as well. Just make sure you have the latest BIOS flashed to ensure latest CPU support.

If you are going to upgrade cpu, the best deal is t9300 penryn, 2.5 ghz, 45 nm technology, 6 mb l2 cache, faster cpu with same watts.

Because of its price over performance increase.
Value for money the T8300 wins. -
Mine hasn't arrived yet - but if I fall into some more money in next couple of months - how difficult is a CPU upgrade on the 1530?
-
Very easy compared to a dv6500.
You just have to open up the CPU compartment in the bottom and your there already. For dv6500 you have to pull the whole notebook apart.
Upgrading from Merom to Penry?
