I've had the T5450 processor in my M1530 since March 2008 when I bought it and I feel that I should upgrade it along with the RAM rather than buy a new computer.
Looking around, I see that there are three series of Core 2 Duo processors: E,P and T. What's the difference between them and will any of them work with my motherboard? Could I install a Core 2 Quad chip?

Well the P's are 25 watts versus the 35 watts of the T's. Not sure if it will work in your laptop though.

You can use any Socket P processor with an FSB of 800MHz or less in the M1530. E-Series chips won't work because they are desktop parts. P-Series and newer T-Series chips won't work because they have a 1066MHz FSB. The X9000 also may not work because it is a 45W part. Quads will not work because they are 1066MHz FSB AND 45W parts. Your best bet is probably a T8100/8300/9300/9500.
