I want to buy a 5000 GB external HDD for my laptop. I had a desktop earlier and i searched for external desktop hard disks which would connect with USB 2.0

Now, I have noticed that external hdd for lappys are costlier.. i dont mind the size since i want to use the drive only at my home desk. Is there such a thing as laptop or desktop external hdd?? or is size and separate power supply the only difference?

I hope i have been able to explain my doubts clearly enuf

Laptop external HDD's are much smaller. I have the WD Passport 250GB and very happy with it!

So, since the size doesnt matter for me, I can go with the desktop HDD as well?

Sure, why not. Forgot to mention that most desktop external HDD's use their own power supply. Most laptop external HDD's are USB powered.
