unfortunately no. the HDMI on most laptops (if not all) is a one-way HDMI, in the sense that it is HDMI-out only. i looked up the same question previously (still haven't ordered a 1645 yet) because i considered the exact same issue with my xbox.

my friend's asus g61 has HDMI and an Ati gfx card as well, does not accept input from his ps3. i'd imagine the 1645 is the same.

Not just HDMI, but I think all the video connectors on most laptops (including the SXPS 1647) are designed as outputs, not inputs. The expectation is that the laptop is the smaller screen and there is a larger screen that will be connected to it for presentations, gaming, video editing, etc. That said, I could see the usefulness in having a portable screen for a gaming system.

Maybe one of the USB video input dongles would work in this case? It probably wouldn't be HD though.

Like the others stated, not natively. You'd probably need an HDTV Tuner with inputs. I did a quick search on Newegg and found this. No HD inputs but you get the idea--just find one that does.

If you use any such adaptor, be aware of input lag.
