    Hi,

I'm getting my Mom's M1210. She's giving it up because she dropped it several months ago and the LCD has a couple dime sized black spots on the screen. It still works fine. Out of warranty though. I do think that it needs a memory upgrade though (Vista OS).

I'd like to replace the damaged LCD, but I'm not sure what options were available other than a built in webcam. It has a glossy screen.

Is there only a glossy screen, or is a matte screen available? I prefer the glossy screen.

Also, if I get the lid with a webcam (laptop came without one) can use the webcam (just plug and play)?

Second, the laptop has 512MB of memory, which I'd like to upgrade it to 2GB. Can I remove the 512MB module and put in one 2GB module, or do I need to put 1GB in each of the two slots?

    Thanks!

The XPS m1210 is an awesome little laptop. I have had mine since 2007 and it is still just as good as the best 12-13" notebooks out. Anyways you can take the ram out. I upgraded to 4GBs of ram, 320 GB hard drive, 2.16Ghz proccessor, installed XP on the new hard drive seeing as I hate Vista and overclocked the 7400 just a bit. I can play all the games I have on this little notebook (mostly simulations). You should be able to find the LCD if you do a search on google. Alot of places sell replacments for this laptop.

    I'm living in Shiga-ken, Japan.
I bought Inspiron 1318 in October 2008 at one of the biggest electronic retail shop near Kyoto Station.
Suddenly, in the middle of November 2008, hasn't reached 1 month, it can't be used again.
The problem is in the screen, and I can't see anything.
One thing that makes me fed up is Dell Service Center here in Japan, didn't give any solution at all. They're not helpful. they just aks me to do this, to do that, and when I asked them where can I fixe my laptop, they can't answer. !!

Is there anybody can help me fix this problem?
I think that Dell's quality is good, but actually, it's sucks.

It is better to start a new thread for your question, since it has nothing to do with the original post regarding a M1210 screen replacement.
I am also living in Japan. Had few problems with two of the notebooks I bought from dell.co.jp. When I called their customer support, they were very helpful; and after figuring out the problem they sent a box to pickup the notebook and returned with in a week.

I had a M1210, I wish I didn't sell it and upgrade to the 1330 so quickly... As far as memery goes you probably figuered out, one module is on the backside, the other is under the keyboard IIRC... You can upgrade either one... I also had the screen replaced... I watched the tech do it in like 10 minutes... If you can find it, get the AUO one... I had a Toshiba and then went to the AUO and the difference was like night and day, especially with the viewing angles...

    Hey scupking,

I do have mine since 2007 as well and I'm happy too. I was wondering how u upgraded to 4GB. Isn't it necesarry to upgrade to 64 bit OS as well in order to use 4GB RAM.

Hope to hear from u soon.

A 64bit OS is needed to access the entire 4GB. A 32bit OS can still access somewhere between 3~3.5GB out of 4GB.
