    Hi guys,

I stopped using I8kfan control because the GPU temp on I8kfan was way off/different from ATITool/Ntune which I trust.

I finally figured out what initial setting on I8kfan was detecting for GPU temp, and found a way to correct this.

To correct this on I8kfan, goto the options, and advanced tab.

You will see Internal Sensor box which has 4 boxes in it.

Change the GPU temp to 3, and chipset temp to 2(chipset temp doesn't matter if it's 3 or 2 in this matter since I'm not using it to guide my temp).

Now you should see same temp on GPU when you compare it to ATItool/Ntune.

Hope this helps people who are using i8kfan to control the fans.

I still suggest choosing the program for the status reading only so you can view the peak temps, and let the bios run the fan itself (choose show temps only, no fan control).

You can DL the i8kfan from below.

    http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html

It should look like this when it's working well. CPU/GPU temps showing on task bar (up/bottom=cpu/gpu)

    GL, and enjoy.

Not me. His website hasn't been updated for over a year and the Vostro 1500 Core 2 Duos have come out since then. It's not on his compatibility list.

When I downloaded it anyway and ran it on my machine, half the fields were empty since the software wasn't tweaked with the Vostro in mind.

    It's free software.

It detects CPU, GPU, HD, Memory, Mobo temps on my M1330.

Just have to know how to configure is all.

I thought I given up on it like you said, but it works flawlessly on controlling, monitoring temps when you tweak it a bit.

Maybe it's time for an update.

    And how'd you do that?

After installtion, you actually have to go to options tab.

I'm at work so can't get into instructions, but just play with it a bit, and it will detect every number for ya.

Only correction I made on it for my M1330 is like I said, was switching system boards temp and GPU temp.

    click on options.

    goto Status Reading tab.

Check GPU, CPU, Memory, Chipset, and HD temp. readings.

I also like the read of fan status. It's up to you to choose what stat reading you want.

this should enable all the temp/status readings.

GPU temp is prolly wrong reading, so open up ATItool/Ntune to see the accurate GPU temp, and compare it to one of your I8kfan readings.

You prolly have to switch the numbers between system board temp and GPU temp to get the correct readings on the GPU which I posted up there.

    GL.

Should this be used for the new XPS M1530 notebooks as the last update was a year ago... I would think it is outdated?

    I8kfanGUI version 3.1 is out (16. February 2007).

I used your settings and did not get accurate results. BIOS revision A10. I will have to tweak some more later and post results.

If you changed the SENSOR already, you just have to change the OFFSET to match ATITool/Ntune. This is because of different driver offsets.

I tried again this morning and it still doesn't work properly. I used ATI Tool to force my GPU sensor to 3, then I set it to 3 in I8Kfan. I was able to get my HDD and CPU temps to match those in SpeedFan, but my GPU temps were 10 degrees lower in I8Kfan than in SpeedFan

If you changed GPU sensor to 3, now go and look for OFFSET section in the option. Put 10 or -10 to offset it so it matches ATITool.

Also, remember that you have to set 10Cº ofset on GPU temperature. I8kfanGUI has always this ofset compare with NVMonitor, RivaMonitor and NdiviaMonitor

I set fans to kick in at 50 degrees for CPU & GPU on my M1330 with automatic temperature control set. The fan are running constantly. What is the optimal setting for the M1330? I am afraid I might be overworking the fans as they are keeping the temp stable at 50-52 degrees.

So far I8kfan made my M1330 useable again! You could sear steaks on the lefthand palm rest! Now it's cool as a cucumber. Thanks I8kfan. BIG PROBLEM SOLVED!
