I'm almost at my wit's end. I've tried reinstalling Udi's drivers and trying to find them on my own; nothing seems to work.

    1. I cannot burn CDs or DVDs. They come out blank when using Windows' built in burner. They will not burn at all in WMP or Nero 7. Burning worked fine under Vista.

    2. I'm getting a Code 10 (failure to initialize) on my Nvidia driver. I don't know whether the monitor is not being recognized or if it is a driver issue, but one of them is causing the other. I tried reinstalling drivers, and it is not working.

I hate Vista! I don't want to have to install it. Then I'd have to face a barrage of "I told you so's."

    Woe is me.

Driver support for new laptops in XP is rubbish at best, I put XP on my Acer 4315 cause it's not that quick, but the drivers are so bad I'm going back to Vista asap (and I can't see any benefit in keeping XP, I just use classic style anyway so the only difference is basically just driver stability).

Not really sure about the optical drive, but have you tried upgrading to the latest laptopvideo2go drivers for the nvidia chip?

Haha, yeah. Maybe it just stems from my hatred of Aero. And the fact that I can't customize it like I can with XP. Visual style support sucks.

When I switched to XP on this system I was abhorred to find it was slower at regular OS tasks and in running programs than Vista was when I first purchased it. I just didn't want it to be true. But now the problems are compounding. I forgot to mention in my list #3: The sound is iffy under XP; drivers fail to initialize and controls randomly set themselves to different levels. For some reason my mic keeps disabling itself.

So after four days of getting XP 'working' and everything installed and organized, it looks like I'm going to have to turn around and redo everything under Vista. :(

You must have done something wrong, I mean it can't work perfectly for 10-15 users (at least) and not work for you. All the drivers work great and yeah if there was anything I missed, other people covered it in the thread.

I'd suggest grabbing the readme included with my drivers and following them to the dot, in fact, someone posted an even more detailed readme in my XP thread (it's a txt file attachment) if you don't mind flicking through a few pages.

That's if you still want to - I mean ultimately it's your call. I only provided the pack for people who want to switch, and so far many seem happy.

I found the problem(s)! I'm elated that I don't have to install Vista.

    1. It so happened that all the CD-R's I tried to burn after I installed XP were corrupted! And somehow, the ones I tried with Vista beforehand were not. I tried DVD-R's and they burn perfectly; now everything is working fine. Who would have known?

    2. The Nvidia display issue with the driver not initializing was caused by the /3GB switch, a consequence I would never have presumed would occur. I altered the boot.ini file a bit and now it is firing up correctly.

    3. The sound driver issue was presumably being caused by the /3GB switch as well.

So the drivers are working great Udi. It was just a host of other weird problems that coincidentally occured after I installed XP. :)
