Let us know how the install goes and benchmarks after all your documents/programs are installed.

What's the capacity of that Vertex 3? And may I ask where did you buy it from?

NoSlow, now that Vertex 3 is available, which one would you recommend me to get, Vertex 3 or Crucial M4?

The problem with the Vertex 3 is that it consumes 1.8 Watts in IDLE! That's quite a bit more then an old HDD! I hope they'll fix this imo serious issue or I'll be getting the Intel 510.

The intel 510 consumes about <100mw whit DIPM enabled drivers, sadly, not a single review site actually uses such driver on the right hardware.

The difference between correct drivers and MSahci is 1,42w on my system (80GB postvile). yes, thats pretty ridiculous.

The postvile based controllers are the only one that fully support DIPM [of 2nd gen drives]. DIMP support by 3rd gen drives is unknown at this point.

edit: and in all seriousness, i wouldn't think of buying a drive of OCZ after the 25nm vertex crap.

I got the exact same WEI score as you but with a 7.9 in the "Primary hard disk" section.

At first I asked myself why someone hate WEI??? but then...

... I understood why. People hate WEI because of other people who use WEI as an answer on question "What about benchmarks?" :)

It gives you only more than approximately view. Like WEI of SSD against HDD. But not SSD vs another SSD. Maybe someone will post first real world benchmarks? using Crystal mark or other?

I posted my results using ATTO Disk Benchmark. It's what the manufacturers use to rate their drives. I wouldn't mine using PC Mark Vantage HDD suite also, but don't have that. It's a real world test of the ssd under a lot of normal situations.

I know that if I want to watch couple reviews I can write in google SSD XXX review. But when I say real world I mean that numbers what usual users post. I guess I need to watch customer's reviews on newegg or else to see what I need.
@NoSlow5Oh. I don't see your results. Maybe you share permalink?
Besides in all tons of reviews I saw I understood that ATTO Disk Benchmark (what manufacturers use) almost ALWAYS shows higher numbers then we can see in real world. I did not try to remember that but If I am correct it is because it uses easy compressible data. I guess that is the reason. That is why OCZ 2 shows extremely hight results. Correct me if I am wrong.

So how does it perform? You encounter any problems? Some people had "comig back from hibernation" problems related to AHCI/ATA and some on the OCZ forums brought up a "stall" problem... How do the L502X and Vertex 3 get along?

Here was my thread posting results in ATTO:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...5-l502x-micron-c400-sata-iii-ssd-results.html

There are enough reviews of all the new SSD's to make an informed decision of which to buy (if you can understand all the data). I think we should all know by now that high sequentials mean nothing and account for less than 1% of our normal use. 4K Randoms are what we use the most and this is what the user should look for when choosing an SSD. If you're setting up a media server, the Intel will do fine. Anything else, go with the Vertex 3 or C400/M4.

I kinda think everyone is getting caught up in the "I want the fastest SSD available", myself included. The truth is, if you've never owned an ssd before, even an older sata II ssd will blow your mind in performance over traditional HDD's.

Ok well she wasnt performing well. I didnt have problems coming out of sleep but i did have the intermittent hangs/stalls with the event viewer error "The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period."

I had a look around specifically here and came across a regedit fix here.

I've just applied this registry key so we'll see if that does anything. Im also gonna have a poke around the bios to see if there's anything there.

Getting wildly fluctuating results on Crystal Disk Mark as well.

Just gonna have a quick tidy of the new drive and laptop and post some atto benchmarks.

Ok did some tidying and then benched with ATTO:

    My Result (VERTEX 3):

    NoSlow5oh's (C400)

Because my reads went over 500 the scale changed from what NoSlow5oh's showed so it isnt that easy to compare.

What we can see is up to 4mb file size the C400 is outperforming the Vertex 3. After that the Vertex 3 begins to pull away and then on the larger size the write speeds just far surpass the C400.

It would be a better comparison if I would have given trim some time to do it's thing. This test was just after installing over 60GB worth of programs. My normal results are higher, but of course, not as high as the vertex.

What I want to reiterate here to people is that this test reads sequential reads/writes, which accounts for less than 1% of how you use your computer normally. When using your computer normally, they are very close in speed.

That's very close to what my Corsair 128GB Nova did in my L501x. I really liked that drive. Gave me zero problems, ever.

    Hey Borse!

    Hey,

Since I saw that you installed a vertex 3 I have a few question since I installed mine yesterday.

When I run HD tune Write/read benchmark I hear a not so loud but noticeable high pitched variating noise. I believe it comes from my vertex 3. It is audiable when the performance peaks upward in the HD tune test (around 250mb/s)

Could you install HD tune, test for a few secs and let me know if you have the same noise? that would be helpful because I suspect that something is not okay with my SSD. We have the same notebooks so It would be perfect for comparison. Maybe the throughput is just causing this sound..

Also I am getting system hangs sometimes at random times when I am browsing. I tried the reg fix but it didn't help. Firefox would freeze for a minute or so and I can't do anything but move the mouse. One time it even froce to "death" and I had to hold the power button.

It would be great to hear from you.

Based on these results I'm assuming the Intel HM67 motherboard is indeed SATA III right? I can't find that information ANYWHERE to confirm this. Intel doesn't show jack either.

My first benchmark run after installing a Vertex 3 Max IOPS 120GB (received yesterday from Amazon).

Would love to know if I can push it further/faster with more tweaks ...

Any problems with the Sandforce controller in the L502x guys? I'm considering getting a Force 3 when they launch soon.
