Well I read a lot of this, I think I have it now. My display going again to shutdown and appears the vertical lines of Apocalipsis!!!!![]()
A video that I saw in you tube
YouTube - nvidia gpu failure dell xps m1330 graphics / video problems, vertical lines what's going on?
I have the same thing, still external monitor works.
The question is that I still have warranty? my dell warranty expires the past august so I dont have dell warranty. Still I read that GPU warranty is extended one more year.
-
I chat with a dell technician and he tell me that I have the GPU warranty, Still he want that I make a tests. The first test was press D + On button, so It start the PC and check colors. The test somehow repairs the PC. So I dont know if this is a GPU failure o Driver failure. He also tell me that I re-install the GPU driver.
-
It's odd that you're able to use an external monitor successfully. My m1330 has been RMA'd 3x due to the GPU failure and each time both the laptop and the monitor displayed horizontal bars and/or squares.
Hopefully yours is a driver issue, that should be easy enough to solve. I assume you're not suffering from random shutdowns/blue screens like I was? -
no blue screen. Still my GPU not get enought heat because coppermod. Max temp playing Halo 2 was 81 C. More suprises I get because I can play it now full resolution with only light lag and before I can't play it more than 800x600. The GPU driver at dell was changed? Also I don't need to overclock the GPU like last time.
Well, we will see, I only make the D + On button and after the text the PC is working normally. -
I'm not sure I've understood - are you saying that there's no problem when you use an external monitor? If so, then I don't think it's GPU failure for, in my understanding, that should affect external output equally.
But I also don't think you should feel that 81C is a safe temperature. The problem with GPU seems to be caused by the heating and recooling cycle. Some have suggested that this problem will occur, after enough use, whatever the temp. Some research has suggested the key temp is 60C. Either way, I've not seen anyone suggest 81C as safe - though I stand to be corrected. -
Well 81C vs. 100C is a huge improvement. Still Im looking for more cooling options, like undervolting, etc... I dont shure if you have this PC because this PC normal GPU temps are very hot.
Yeah external monitor works just fine. I will make the driver reinstall -
It was the driver, when I uninsalled it the LCD works again fast.
-
Glad the problem wasn't seriouis.
I have the xps m1330 with nvdia 8400 chip - I take it that's the one we're talking about?
Yes, temps ran very high before I copper modded it. After copper mod, temps don't go much above 60. But I'm very gentle with it and don't play heavy duty graphics game.
81vs100 is an improvement and I didn't mean to take anything away from that. It's just that, in the nature of this particular problem, it's unclear the degree to which this will prevent the graphics failure. -
I know im thinking to make a better cooling, Today the same problem I needed to uninstall and install again the driver to work again. This is more a software problem I think. Im more lost than Dr House.
Vertical lines?m1330 :(
