    Hi

Ok so i had a search and couldnt find anything specific but if there is a link/thread please direct me there.

I have a XPS 1647 i5 M520 running Win 7 x64 less than 6 months old. I have an issue when the video freezes or hangs when im trying to watch say You Tube, or most types of streaming media. The wierd thing is, if i download the video and play it i dont get the freezing. When it freezes the browser (both latest firefox and IE) hangs and the lappy stops responding, it eventually lets me bring up task manager and i can eventually end the browser session.

I have all the latest drivers (updated from this site) including flash and ATI, and the latest BIOS A10 but it still seems to happen. i get a few moments of video before it starts to happen, sometimes im lucky and it wont happen for a little while, but it always happens sooner or later.

Anyone else have this issue or seen it?

    Thanks

It could be flash player. You may want to update your Adobe flash player to its latest version. It is very likely because certain versions of flash player can be buggy. Also try uninstalling your video drivers completely, reboot your machine, and reinstall the newer video drivers from scratch and reboot again. I say this because some of the newer ATi Radeon HD card drivers are iffy when it comes to flash player and its use of video acceleration. If that doesn't work, you may try disabling the video acceleration in the flash player options when you go to play a video. You might have to do that each time you open another flash video, though which could get annoying.

    Hi Chaps

Thanks for the replies. Ive previously made sure flash was the latest drivers even installed the Adobe BETA 10 drivers as some suggested and still the same issue. Ive not tried changing the flash video acceleration so ill give that a try and let you know.

Nothing to do with my internet connection as i have 50mb connection that is flawless in everything else it does and it wouldnt cause the browser to hang and the laptop to not respond, it would just stop the video streaming or cut out altogether. Im a technical IT network engineer so i understand the ins and outs of how streaming works but i just dont understand whats going on with the flash streaming behaving like it is and causing the lapop to hang.

    Thanks

I think the updated Nvidia drivers are causing the problem. You could try going back to a previous graphics driver. I have this problem since I upgraded and I have searched google to find others have a similar issue on different models.

In my experience the error only occurs if I do something such as scroll whilst the video is starting. Try to allow a second for the video to begin and see if that helps.

Don't forget to run a quick diagnostic on the laptop.

This happened to my M1330. I couldn't figure the streaming video problem out for the life of me until I ran the diagnostic. It turned out to be a dying HDD in the end.

Uninstall the IDT drivers and try.

    Happened to me, too.

Video drivers being too new is a possibility as well. This is very true. I have found one of the best drivers that worked for me for the HD series mobility chips was the Catalyst 9.9. Give those a try and see what happens. My brother owns the MSI GT735 notebook and his machine comes with the mobility HD3850. He, too, has flash video playback problems and we solved them by backing to the 9.9 Catalyst drivers and sometimes disabling the acceleration in the flash videos worked like a charm.
