My system is the Dell XPS-15, 6GB RAM, Intel i5, nvidia GT 525 graphics, Windows 7 Home Premium (received April 2011).

I want to extend the desktop via the mini VGA port to a projector that receives R-G-B, Hsync & Vsync but doesn't return a PNP signal to the computer. Works fine to any PNP monitor or video device but will only duplicate the primary screen for nPNP. Same thing has worked fine on most other computers I've tried.

I've had around a dozen email exchanges w/ Dell tech support with updated nvidia drivers and other attempts but no solution to the problem.

A lengthy phone conversation with Dell claimed that the desktop can only be extended via the HDMI port. This clearly isn't the case since it extends fine as long as the device is plug and play.

I'd like to find a software fix rather than a $270 adaptor--seems like I've already paid for premium graphics capability that should include a way to force the desired behavior.

    I'm open to constructive suggestions.
