You need specific drivers for every type of OS, be it Vista, XP, Linux etc.
Under www.dell.com, at support , download drivers.

First off, if you're even thinking about an XP downgrade, understand that most who attempt it end up with at best a major league headache, at worst a complete nightmare because you'll likely never find all the drivers that you need or will work, assuming you can also find a BIOS to run it. HP, Dell, and other vendor support site forums are full of post with users in tears because they wiped their systems before reading the warnings not to downgrade, and even worse didn't research where to get drivers/BIOS they needed (or even if they can be found), or if the system they have can be successfully downgraded. Not all can.

Your system was made to run with Vista - your Vista BIOS won't run XP, and there's always at least one key driver you can't find because it doesn't exist. If you're using Vista Home (which sucks unless it's SP1), it's better to upgrade it to Premium or Ultra. Just make sure you have the RAM. Vista is actually a good OS if you have the right one.

Your other option, which is easier and has been accomplished, is a dual-boot system. While not always possible, it's been more successful than just a straight XP downgrade attempt. However, you're still going to have problems in the BIOS/Driver area.

However, if you're insistent, then go to the Dell site Forums and research your system to see what problems are involved with an XP downgrade, or if it can be done with your system before you even start. There have been thousands of attempts and failures, so there will be plenty of info for you to find as you wade through the tears and ashes of those who've done it in the past. But at least you have the benefit of learning from their failure or the occasional success.

I have a perfect XP install, a little inconvience, but there are plenty of guides out there. If you need help after that give me a PM or add to the XP install thread.

There is not a driver out there that does not have a XP equivalent out there, never had any problems with XP that did not pop up in vista. The only driver I have seen not for one, but for another is the one for the Intel Turbo memory, which should be disabled as the guides will tell you.
