I just tested out the volume control on the xps m1330. It is really low. Is it like this on all m1330s? Thanks!

Mine plays pretty loud. You sure you got all the settings down?

I fooled around with a few things, but nothing worked. I tried a DVD and a youtube clip, both were pretty low. I had the volume all the way up.

mine is quite loud too. Are you referring to built-in speakers or the headphone out ?

Builtin speakers are loud too. Don’t expect them to be as loud or as good as external PC speakers (especially bass sounds), but for laptop speakers, I think M1330 has above average loudness.

Hmmmm...I wonder what is up with mine then?! I also have a Dell Inspiron e1505 and it is much, much louder than the xps m1330.

Any ideas on how I can fix this....or should I just call up Dell tech support?

    Thanks :)

Make sure both main and application volume levels are set to maximum. Are you using any audio enhancement programs like SRS Sandbox? Also try changing some of the settings under control panel > Sound .

Nope, no enhancement programs....just whatever it came with. I checked the settings and everything is set to max.

I have a confession to make - I did drop water on my laptop the other day. I dried it out and everything works fine. But, could the volume issue be a result of the water?

I suppose it could. If water went inside speakers and if the diaphragm (cone) is made out of paper, then I suppose something could have happened to them

I guess I should just call Dell. I called them yesterday morning about the water spill, so they already know what happened. maybe they can offer some insight. I wanted to call about a couple other things anyway.

One is that whenever I play a audio or video clip, or a DVD, and browse the internet or something, there is an annoying scratching sound. Two, I noticed that the same system I ordered has $800 off now (I just ordered my system on Dec 7th). So, I was hoping to get some sort of Dell credit or money back....I have read that others on this bard were able to do that.

If your system is not covered with complete care (against accidental damages), then I don’t think you return your laptop for money back after it has been damaged (if that is what you mean by money back).

I have the 3-year complete care warranty. But, I don't want to return my laptop. Despite the couple volume and sound issues I mentioned, I am happy with it.

I just read that a couple of other people called and Dell gave them some money back because the coupon came out so soon after ordering. So, I wanted to ask them about it. If it turns out that I get nothing back, that's fine. Just figured it is worth a shot since I ordered not long before the coupon came out.

I would never return it for this reason...that'd feel dishonest. More power to those who do that, but I am too much of a goody-goody :)

Out of the blue, the volume started working better on my xps m1330. Strange! I didn't do anything and it just got louder. So, I am good now. I just hope it doesn't go back to how it was again.
