Well I have scoured the threads and came up empty. I cant get my W7 score back up to my Vista score. My processor calculations per second is sitting at 4.6 on W7 where it was 5.1 on Vista. Is it possible I am missing something?

Was it really necessary to create another thread? We have so many with W7, you should have posted there.

The highest score was raised in W7, and requirements have changed. Since WEI is based on hardware not hardware performance, it's not a benchmark and cannot be changed. The best you can do to raise your score is to hack your hardware IDs to be those of high end hardware (which won't mean anything anyway).
In short, when are people going to give up all this BS about WEI? -
the first time I installed W7 I had a 5.1 but I reinstalled it and now have the lower score. I am just wondering if it is possible I missed something?
-
Maybe it's because of an update?
Are all of your drivers installed? -
No, it's because the range of scores has been lifted in 7. Nothing to worry about, WEI is crap anyway.

You do know that there are other ways to buy laptops and computers than coming here on NBR, filling a FAQ and ordering online?
Mommy won't know what Super PI is when she goes for X-MAS in PC World to get her son something. She asks an advice, the geeza comes up to her and shows her WEI. She will see a low score and frown. She will see a big one, and smile. They all do
.

Anyone who goes on NBR and cares about a WEI score has about the technical knowledge of... a Mommy buying a prebuild at Best Buy?
Hmm... I agree!
Though did you know that some computers that score higher in WEI will perform worse in a Super Pi or 3dmark or other synthetic benchmark, same goes for real world performance.
Just sayin'. -
Calm down and breathe. There is this NBR phenomenon that is making people think inside the box. Just because NBR has members with technical skills and they know how to bench a laptop/pc it does not mean everyone is like that. If some member here does not understand why WEI is used as a reference it is because this NBR skewed view of things affects judgement.
NBR is not the majority. We are only a small percentage of people. We barely make a dent in laptop/pc sales. Having said that, the majority of customers are like the mommy I mentioned in my previous post.
You understood my post but you are nitpicking. -
I know, I'm kinda messing around. Not chastising you in any way... if anyone, just the people who do concern themselves with WEI.
Yeah, it's something for the general populous. That doesn't mean we here at NBR should perpetuate the interest in something so inaccurate. As the educated, it is our duty to educate others. -
This WEI tool is dumb but people need guidance. Most of the people I talk too have no idea what SATA is but they claim they are heavy laptop users. -
I work with morons every day too, man.
I worked IT at a high school for 3 years, I now work as a repair technician at an independent computer shop and have been doing this for almost a year. I see trivial stuff baffling people every day, and definitely, definitely, can sympathize to wanting to throw yourself off a cliff. I am NOT a very patient person. -
i have t7300, vista was 4.9 now 5.1, i dont think my t300 is better than ur t8300..
-
Leaving aside the merits of the WEI, the way it is supposed to work is that every once in a while, Microsoft will increase the maximum value. For example (and I'm making these number up, I don't know what they will change it to), a processor that scored 5.9 should still score 5.9, but now that will be a 5.9 out of a maximum of 7 rather than 6.
-
well I am not sure why but when I stopped all processes outside of operating system files and re-ran the assesment my score jumped up to 5.4 versus the 5.1 I had on Vista.
W7 score.......
