In control panel/power options, go to change plan settings on whatever power plan you have. Select "change advanced power settings", inside select "power buttons and lid", then "lid close action" and change within there. I have it set to nothing. Hope that helps. :)

I think what he meant was that the LCD backlight is still on even when the lid is closed.

No experience with the model in question, so, sorry I can't help you.

When you have it hooked to an external, you have the option to only show the display on the external monitor, located in Display Settings. Right now, you have it set to mirroring the image on both screens. Then set Lid Action to Nothing, and close the lid.

    No answers here?

I have a M1330 and when I close the lid the monitor actually stays on.

This is an extreme waste of battery power if I want to keep the computer on, but do not need to use the monitor. (i.e., when copying files on a network, downloading a large file, etc.).

Windows does not have any options to enable or disable this and the latest Bios (A11) does not fix this issue.

that's unusual.. i've no experience with that particular model but none of my laptops (a Fujitsu, my current dell and a couple of generic HP laptops) have ever done that before, even when set to "do nothing" when the lid is closed, the screen goes blank/black when you close the lid (even if it opens very slightly, it's still "off", and doesn't click on until you swing it open by an inch or so).

i'd imagine it wouldn't do your screen alot of good either being on and then being stuck up against your laptop's base, nowhere for the heat to escape, have you tried calling Dell about the problem?

as a work around you could just boot into windows, and set the power options to "turn off screen after 1 minute", but that's not a permenant solution, and it won't help you at all if you have to run in Media Direct..

okay, hold the funcion key and press i think it's f5 but it could be different it should say crt/lcd on it...while holdinh function you press it twice i think. There are 3 modes....

    1- laptop only
    2- laptop and external display
    3- external display only

set it to 3 then the monitor will be off with the lid open and closed...if your going to close the lid make sure under power options you have close the lid set to do nothing, that way it will not sleep/hibernate on you. The screen will stay off though
