    I am a high school student planning to buy a Dell XPS 1330. The laptop will mainly be used for word processing, a little bit of video and photo editing, and movies. I am not much of a gamer, and the integrated media accelerator will do for me. Here are a few questions I'd like to ask:

    1.) I am not in a hurry to buy a laptop right now, but I am wondering if I should wait until Intel Centrino 2 Duo comes out. I've looked around at some speculations, and it seems that the next model of XPS 1330 will feature the Montevina platform?

    2.) Will there be a price increase once centrino 2 is released? My budget is around $1200, and I am eyeing the $999 model with a few upgrades in mind.

    If you want to wait, you can...but montevina probably wont hit the XPS until september or so. For your needs, it doesn't really matter. If I were you and I found an affordable deal now, I'd go for it.

    Nobody knows when exactly, but most likely it will be during the summer. The intel chipsets that require an external graphics card will be released this month, while the ones with integrated graphics will follow in august.

    At this point, if you can wait it would benefit you to do so.

    If you get a good deal and can avoid the 8400M GS video card (one of Nvidia's defective cards), you may want to go for it. Then again, since we're only weeks away from a replacement model, you might want to wait like me.

    I would've waited to see if the issue with a GPU will be resolved. If not, then IMHO it's better to stay away from m1330.

    I just canceled my 1330 order, decided to wait for the new line.

    For you usage purposes, the 1330 should be fine. If you are on a budget, Im pretty sure the replacement model will be priced higher upon launching.

    Yeah, that would be my concern for you, too. The new one, whenever it releases, may be priced higher. Something to consider.

    Thanks for the replies;
    If the new model is priced higher, will it be the same specs for a higher price? Or is the higher price the result of Penryn processors, etc.?

    wouldnt it make sense for dell to update their line next week with HP and Lenovo? otherwise they're going to be soo far behind. next week you can purchase the intel model of the HP DV5, and i believe that all of the Lenovo thinkpads are coming then too. so i'd really hope that Dell would do the same?

    Hello, I am new to this forum. This topic is huge for me right now. I am planning on buying a really kick-butt 15.4 inch laptop soon for games, but Dell's M1530 isn't cutting it for me when it comes to their graphics card, and so I am really waiting for a change in the XPS line. If Dell doesn't do something to keep up with the times, then I most certainly will, and make the 5th Dell computer bought by my family, not a Dell.

    If you want a powerful graphics card, then you will have to look at Alienware. The M1530 chassis is too slim to put anything more in it without major issues.
