Kind of in need of a new powerfull laptop. Looking at a customized Dell XPS 15" on a Sandy Bridge proc.

Is it a good time to buy or are there any upgrades to the XPS line coming soon?
Have they fixed the recent SB problems?

Sandy bridge just came out a month or two ago - no planned releases until the next update, so you'll be buying the latest and greatest

Problems with the boards have been fixed, though it seems if you order a 1080 screen, your order will be delayed for a bit; no ones sure why - some say it's because of the Japanese quake, others say dell just screwed up and got caught without enough parts on hand to meet demand

Noted about the processor, but was rather wondering if they have something new planned style-wise.

    Guess not?

Not entirely sure about that; they pulled the old L701x, but as for a more radical redesign, I dunno

Hmm, I don't see that delay message on the Dell USA site. Either way, if you're not going to get the 1080p display I highly advice against getting the Dell XPS 15. The B+RGLED 1920x1080 display is the selling point on the laptop, and it's one of the best screens in town whereas the 720p you get if you don't upgrade is basically terrible.
If you can't get the XPS 15 with 1080p, look into a Sager NP5160 on XoticPC with the matte 95%-gamut B+RGLED display (actually even the basic 1080p display on the NP5160 is way better than the XPS 15's 1366x768).
