Hello guys,
After further phonecalls to dell, aw and xotic pc, I decided on getting either a xps 1730 or an ae m15x or wait for a m17x.
My situation is I want a powerful notebook that I will be using as my main system for the next 3-4 years. I called Xotic PC and their warrenty doesn't have 3 year + accidental damage. And alienware doesn't ahve accidental damage coverage at all.
The dell system I configured cost $3700 (With the student discount), it has an extreme core 2 duo cpu that can be overclocked to 3.4 ghz WITHOUT voiding the warrenty, 4 gigs of memory, x2 512 8800 gtx nvidia card (1 gig of video memory), 200 gigs 7200 hardirve, 3 year warrenty with 3 years of and accidental protection + other extras.
now my question is
1. is this a good deal and is the dell xps 1730 really good system with the configuration that I choosed?
2. How does it compare to other 17" gaming laptops with the mobile cpu chip (not systems like sager 9262 which has desktop cpu)
3. Is this dell the first 17" MOBILE gaming notebook that offer dual sli 8800 gtx cards gtx? (again we do not coun't the sager 9262 or any d901c models because It using a desktop cpu)
4. Should I wait for the M17x alienware system if im going to spend this much?
5. Is it still portable enough to bring around on school campus? its 10 lbs compared to the sager which is 13lbs
6.The accidental coverage interest me because this will be my first high powered laptop and I don't want to risk spending this much money for nothing because I plan to use this as my main cmputer.
7. Can anyone who has a 1730 comment on it, if they were satisfied with their system, and also can someone who has multiple gaming systems and owns a 1730 comment on the system.
The promotional discount is supopsely only last till the end of this week, so any feedback would be great, Dell lovers, Dell haters etc..... any input would be greatly appreciate by me
Sorry for so much post, I got so much questions, thanks

If you have the money to spend wait for the m17x it will be the top-of-the-line laptop when it comes out.

Save a whoooole lot of money by getting the lowest amount of ram and buying it yourself online. You can pick up a 2 2gb sticks for like 80 bux. Dell charges $300 bux. You can save $220 (plus the money you get for selling the old ram) by doing that.

Do not buy 4 GB of RAM from Dell. Buy it separately and install yourself.
It's not a very mobile machine, and I certainly wouldn't want to carry it everywhere.
