I have two months left on my warranty for my xps M1530, i spoke to dell and was offered a three year warranty for £160. I was told its only available this week and normally it goes for over £300. Have i been offered a good deal or is £160 about right for a three year deal. Any input would help a lot.

how much did you buy your m1530 for?

160 pounds on a 800 pounds purchase might be worth it (not sure how laptops are priced in pounds... more well versed on prices in this side of the atlantic

does it include complete care(accidental damage)?

How long are you planning on keeping the laptop?

If you are planing on keeping the laptop it is worth considering - the 8600 GPUs can give problems.

If you are thinking of a change in the near future it's probably not worth it.

As long as its NDB at home service, well worth it at £160! Hope its that cheap for my XPS M1730! Baring in mind my 2 1/2 yr old M1710 had full motherboard/RAM/CPU/GPU failure! And they're replacing with brand new M1730. the warranty is worth having!

As people have said before, it depends on how long you intend to keep the machine for. I always get two year warranty (on site 5 business day) when I buy a notebook from Dell. Only had to use their services on three occaisions, but I'm very glad I bought it.

I'm with the others..you have to look at it as from the $$ vs. how long you plan on keeping the lappy for.

I have a 3 year warranty on my 1530, had if for 1.5 years and have had 4 service calls on it (of that 2 GPU's & a fear another one coming on). That warranty has paid itself off very well since inception! :) Next lappy will have a minimum of a 2 year warranty on it! ;)

I myself have a 3 years next day on site support from Dell, mainly because of problems with Dell laptops in the past. Just called them up and logged a service call, will take a couple of days, but that's still acceptable in my books. (Guessing paint falling off by itself doesn't really warrant a next day callout, but since I'm looking @ this thing 10 hours a day, I wanted it fix :p)

Thanks for all the input guys, i think im going to see how much it is for a one year Warranty and see if i saving much by going for three. Biggest problem now is i don't get paid for two weeks, and the dell rep says i can only have it this week.

    Hi Red Bull,
I'm in the UK and just purchased a 2 extra year warranty for my XPS M1530.

When I called the rep told me £120 for extra 2 year and £160 for extra 3 year.
I told him I would think about it and that a rep on a previous call had quoted £95 for 2 years, which he had nearly 12 months ago!
Anyhoo, he said he would check with his manager and came back and said OK.

So £95 for an extra 2 years is what I had, tell them you will think about it, £120/£160 seems expensive etc, in other words HAGGLE.

PS. I extended mine 2 weeks before my 12 month warranty expired and I got a reminder email about that time from dell anyway, good luck.

    MM.

Yes haggle. Warranties can normally be bargained a bit on.

I tried haggling but they won't budge, but they made a note on my files so i can have the discounted price later in the year. What prices have other people paid for three years cover?

I called Dell about extending the warranty on my m1730, they said the same thing to me - speciall offer is on, £160 for 3 years NBD service. I tried to haggle (just for £150 - £50 a year :D) but they wouldn't budge, they said it was a great offer and its normally almost double that.

So, I went with it anyway. To be honest, you only need 1 thing to fail and the warranty will have paid for itself. In the case of my M1730 (judging by the faults with the 8800GTX's) it's a VERY sound investment, lol.

tbh, £160 i'm sold! the 3 year on my M1710 has paid for:
    keyboard
    AC adapter
    rear LCD panel with LED's
    LCD Bezel
    7950 GTX
    CPU
    RAM
    Motherboard,
5 engineers at a cost of about £160 a time.
    Replacement M1730 (retail £1600)

WELL worth it in my eyes! Especially as the 3yr on my M1710 came free as i haggled 20% off the total cost of the system!

    Hi guys

Can someone confirm i haven't been screwed by the salesmen @ Dell
I am French Canadian and the guys i spoke to was not so good in french.
I asked for 2 extra years warranty, I want the one they send a technician in my house to do the work.
I don't want to loose my laptop for a month every time something is wrong with it. My laptop is still in production and i was double checking my quote to make sure, and this is confusing. This is all the codes they put on my quote, can someone confirm me this is correct before it is too late ?

Does " on-site" means in my house or @ Dell's repair center ?

901-1077 1 Dell Hardware Limited Warranty Plus Onsite Service Initial Year
    901-2450 1 Contract - Mail-In Service, 24x7 Technical Support, Initial Year

You've been given the first year onsite plus the second year onsite. The very last line will cover the third year, but it doesn't look like it is onsite (which is where the technician will come to your house).
