Guys, Please advice should I go for it or not?

My XPS 15 is covered under warranty until 2013. Dell is offering 10% discount on warranty extensions. Is it advisable to pay for 2 year extended warranty(Next Business Day + Complete Cover)?

I brought Studio 15 with 3 year warranty (Next Business Day + Complete Cover). After 6 months Dell replaced overheated Studio 15 unit with XPS 15 because by that time Studio 15 was discontinued.

If I can imagine, nearing the end of 2015....
either I would be cursing my slow and outdated 2.5 year old Dell XPS 15
or I would have got another good laptop as warranty replacement. I assume by that time Dell would have discontinued XPS 15.

Initially, I purchased laptop in discounted EPP scheme with 3 year warranty. Now I have to pay 25% of the original price for 2 year extended warranty. 1 year extended warranty costs 16%.

Given the poor XPS track record of reliabillity, that wouldn't be a bad idea. Worst case, Dell will give a comprarable replacement of a laptop.

I am thinking on the other lines. My current warranty is valid until 2013. I can foresee that in 2014, certainly the shape and features of modern laptops will surely change.

The biggest driving factor is launch of Windows 8 by the end of 2012. All laptop makers will change their strategies. New laptops with have touch interface. 3D screens might as well be more common.

The question I have to answer is that - why I would be using an XPS 15 which would be outdated by then in 2015?

Just because my XPS would be trash by then and instead of repairing it Dell might replace it with a laptop which would be the latest?

I think I should not opt for warranty extension. Any comments?

    With all due respect...

Don't you think you are abusing the generous policies of Dell.

Dell is replacing your system because you have problem with it. But looks like you want to buy the extended warranty just to complain after few years to get a newer version of laptops.

Because of this reason people who seriously like to buy extended coverage end up paying more because of more cost to company by abuses of policies like this.

You are assuming too farther than what I thought and written in my above posts. This is not a rational statement. I have only discussed a possibility in case it happens in itself, just to be prepared what surprises may come in future. This is called 'Risk analysis'.

You need to rethink first before accusing others.
