My warranty on my SXPS m1340 expires soon. I started a system exchange two weeks ago and I'm getting a replacement system. This will be my second replacement, I've had various problems with my system. I don't want this system exchange to arrive without a warranty. I recently chatted with dell for a warranty extension and for a 1 year extension it cost $421.75. I said that's a little high and the agent called me and offered me $320.20 with a $75.00 gift card urging me to take the offer as it is "Limited". I told the agent to call back later. Should I take the 1 year warranty for $320.20 with the gift card or still try and play hardball with Dell. I definitely need to buy a warranty extension, I cant even count how many issues I've had with my system.

That's insanely high. I renewed the warranty on my 1530 for two years for $293 with a $75 gift card just a couple weeks ago.

Depends where you are in your contract length and what all is included in the price, i was just nearing the end of my 4 year warranty, and they gave me a replacement SXPS 1645 (with lots of problems) that i won't keep without a warranty, bascially in the end after 3 hours of arguing and talking to managers, the best i could get was a 2 year extension (years 5 and 6) for 500 w/$75 GC :( I felt like i was forced into buying a warranty...as mine end 5/6/10 and there is all kinds of problems with the laptop they sent...

In retrospect i should have bought a warranty extension when i hand my inspiron E1505, before they gave me the SXPS 1645, because it would have been about 100-150 cheaper and would have transfered over to the "new" replacement.

I just spoke to a different agent and I'm getting different rates. $566 for 2 years and $379 for 1 year. i wish that I could do it online myself and not have to deal with agents.

I'd just take what was offered you on the phone. Depending on the length of your original warranty, they can be very expensive.

Different model, xps m1730, but I just got a letter from Dell saying I can get 3 years and a $75 gift card for 380.

I only paid $790 for my SXPS 1340 (2.4GHz, 9500M, LED, 320GB 7200RPM drive) and they wanted me to pay $300 to extend the warranty. What a joke! I'll take my chances with the warranty costing such a huge fraction of the system.

When I was getting a sys. exchange my warr. was just about up and I got 2 years for $13X.00.... Not sure if the rep goofed or that is the actual base price and they knew I was a student.. I'll never know.

It depends a lot on how long the original warranty was, as well as what system you have.

The rep definitely goofed on mine, because he quoted me $293 for a two-year warranty extension and I woke up the next day to find my warranty extended by three years. :D Though he might have just been compensating me for the hassle I had to go through to get the $75 promo gift card (I spent 3 hours on the phone with Dell and was transferred 25+ times while trying to take advantage of a promotional offer I received in the mail, something that should have been easy).
