To all of you who have had or still having problem in getting your webcam to work or get detected by your laptop try this.
Almost everyone who has formatted their hard drives and/or done a clean install of the OS has come into contact with this problem from what I have read...
Uninstall all Dell webcam software and download and install ManyCam webcam software, by all accounts the Dell webcam software is the villain here.
Once this is installed your webcam should now be detected by the system and now work. ManyCam is a freeware program I have no means of testing this due to the fact all my systems are M1330 XPS.
I cam about this fix via a comrade in France early this morning..
@Les try this and see how you get on... :)

Well for myself with my M1330 the webcam is only grainy in bad light so this may be the same for you.

I'm going to try this on my sxps 1340. My webcam dropped of the radar a month after I bought the laptop and after I had installed win7.

I'll report back in a minute with info on how it worked...

Nope it didn't work. I installed manycam opened up the program but it didnt seem to detect any webcam :(

I'm going to call dell and see if there is an easy way to fix this.

Well I only found out about this problem from a friend in France & this forum and Dell could not fix this problem to date, so there is this work around and one other that using a USB mouse to active the webcam. By all accounts pluging a USB mouse or flash drive in, device manager finds new device but this does not always work.. I'll try and find the link on this and post details here.
