Thinking about ordering and XPS 16, which SSD do they use for the 256GB version and what speeds can I expect from it?

Samsnung (the only 256GB sammy makes, so you can google it).
I have seen benchmarks of it and it is VERY fast. -
fast when you first use it, slow once you've used it for a while.

The difference between new performance and steady state performance isn't really that bad. I have two last-gen Samsung drives and in steady state the maximum sequential throughput only drops about 5MB/s to 15MB/s and the maximum random throughput stays about the same depending on how you test both. I say it isn't that bad because I couldn't even tell the difference just using the thing on a day to day basis.
On even higher maximum new throughput, the difference is probably even less noticeable, though I don't have any hard numbers for the current generation. -
Here... Samsung appears pretty stable. Actually Intel and Samsung's controller seem to handle used state noticably better than OCZ's vertex.

BAM!! Like-new performance from your SSD -

You have to find a program that will actually empty the SSD (write zero's to every cell).
The only one I am aware of is HDDErase. -
an expensive kind.

Besides, Newegg is selling the same drive for $700. It's not very often that it's cheaper to upgrade with Dell...
