I'm confused. Dell's pre-purchase webpage describing the XPS 9570's features lists the TB16 dock as an option for using with that laptop model. However, the TB16 features page does not show it as being compatible with the XPS 9570.

And at least one user has recently reported a problem trying to use the TB16 with the 9570.
So what is the current official status?
And what third-party alternatives would work? (Especially if less expensive than the Dell)

You could look at this one: Plugable TB3 Doc
It does not have all the bells and whistles of the Dell dock but it works. No issues on my 9550.

Best one out there is the Caldigit TS3 Plus. Super tiny and works great!

I think you may need the 240W Version, not the 180W. Then I wouldn't expect any issues, though I only use it with a 9560 & a HP Spectre x360.

No need to limit yourself with Thunderbolt docks with the 9570 as you also can use a USB-C dock. But the Thunderbolt suggestions look good. And both TB and USB-C docks look far more capable than the Dell model and are less expensive. Many supporting 2 4k monitors as well as peripherals.

I linked to the 180W version because the 240W webpage link on the Dell website returns "You have been redirected. The page you tried cannot be found; it may be an incorrect or outdated link."

Depends on the needs, from my research the better ones seem to be the Caldigit TS3 Plus and the pluggable Thunderbolt 3.
I'd go with the pluggable because it's $60 cheaper and has all the ports I need, the CalDigit has 7 USB 3.1 which I will never need so there no need to pay for unused ports.
What Thunderbolt 3 docks are recommended for XPS 15 9570?
