So i know there some issues with dell not properly pasting the cpu and gpu. I checked my temps with realTemp.

    My configuration is i5 2410m and GT540m 2gb.

During a 45 min run of prime95, the cpu never went above 80 degrees.

However today i played a game (anno 1404) for about 90 minutes and checked the temps again. gpu was max 88 degrees while the cpu went to 84 degrees during the game. Are these temps normal? Just to be sure ;)

Are there general rules with temps? I know cpu is not supposed to go above 100 degrees but what about the gpu?

    Thanks!

Your temps are fine, maybe GPU temps are a bit high (usually it should stay @ low 80's).
You could save a few degrees by repasting yourself, I'd recommend using AS5 termal compound as is very efficient in this systems.
There are some good guides in how to disassemble your notebook.

If it does not crash, then temperatures are fine. Of course if you are gaming, it is advisable to keep it somewhere cooler so the fans can vent the hot air ( ie on on your bed in the bedroom )

Thanks, as long as it doesn't crash i will leave it for now then. I plan to order a backlit keyboard in the very near future and when i install it, i will see if i can repaste them myself :) Thanks again for the quick responses!

Just remember that those air vents will clog up with hair and fluff. Get yourself some canned air and a vacuum if the temps get too high for comfort.

I didn't think about that :) Thanks for the tip.

Is there any temp limit for the gpu? Then i know when to worry ;)

100C, if it goes over that then you could end up damaging it.

I believe the laptop will shut down before it gets to a temperature than will, on average, damage the GPU/CPU. That's not to say it won't be damaged... but there is usually some head room between shut-off temps and damaging temps.
